The town is clustered around its small harbour, and is known for the colourfully painted buildings that line the shore. Portofino, village, Liguria regione, northwestern Italy. On the Riviera di Levante, it is situated at the southeast end of the small promontory of Portofino, which encloses the Gulf of Rapallo on the west.
Why is Portofino so famous?
The town is clustered around its small harbour, and is known for the colourfully painted buildings that line the shore. Since the late 19th century, Portofino has attracted tourism of the European aristocracy and it is now a resort for the world’s jet set. The period drama series Hotel Portofino is set in a splendid location overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio, although the production shot in Croatia in addition to the Liguria Riviera. Interior shoots took place in the Croatian cities of Rovigno, Fiume and Laurana which was the location for the villa housing the hotel.
