In 1996, against the advice of his crew, Belfort insisted on sailing The Nadine through rough waters off the Italian coast. Caught in a violent storm, the yacht was battered by massive waves before ultimately sinking near Sardinia. Nadine’s sinking was indeed caused by the violent waves. A foredeck hatch was smashed, allowing water to flood the crew quarters and bringing the yacht down by the bow.However: everyone agreed that it was a freak storm which sunk Nadine (known in the film as Naomi) with Jordan Belfort on board in the mid 90s. The hull remains there to this day, but at a depth of about 100 metres – so you probably can’t dive down to see it.
