Why is Turo not approved?
Usually if they are not approved to drive either they just created the account and it’s taking them time to verify ID, or this person has had issues with other trips in the past and Turo revokes their approval. Owners may cancel on you at the last minute — leaving you with no other options. A major downside that often goes overlooked is what happens if your Turo host cancels on you — even at the last minute. Unlike traditional rental car companies, Turo does not guarantee you a replacement at the same price. If a guest keeps a host’s vehicle past the scheduled end time without their approval via the Turo system, the host may charge for additional usage and related fees, and we may void the guest’s protection plan.

This can complicate things and potentially make the rental a less affordable option if you also have to buy insurance. This commission, which varies based on factors like the chosen insurance plan, forms the backbone of Turo’s revenue model. The more transactions the platform processes, the higher its overall revenue.Turo prices are highly variable. Because car owners set the prices, sometimes they can be cheaper than traditional rental cars — but not always.
